The awarding of colours to Sri Lanka Air Force sportsmen and women took place at the SLAF Base Katunayake yesterday. Colours were awarded for 20 sports at which the SLAF was represented. The Chief Guest was the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshall W.D.R.M.J. Goonethilake.

The Air Force has five special awards of which the most outstanding sportsman of the year is awarded the Vartharasa Memorial Trophy and the runner-up is awarded the Air Chief Marshall W.D.H.S.W. Goonethilaka Memorial Trophy. The winners of these trophies for the respective years are as follows:

Runner-up to the Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year 2003: Cpl K.V.S. Priyadharshana (Swimming); The Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year 2003: F/S G.M. Chandana (Shooting); Runner-up to the Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year 2004: Lac S.A. Suranga (Cycling); The Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year 2004: F/S G.M. Chandana (Shooting); Runner-up to the Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year 2005: Cpl. K.V.S. Priyadarshana (Swimming); The Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year 2005: Lac S,S.R. De Silva (Cycling); Runner-up to the Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year 2006: G.M. Chandana (Shooting); The Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year 2006: Lac R.I. Liyanage (Wrestling)
