Mojo is all about the ultimate Saturday – the sand beneath your feet and the ocean before you, while the mind-blowing tunes of Sri Lanka's most wanted DJs play all day long.
And all for a good cause too. It is a fund-raiser for Mr. Mohan Ariyaratne who was diagnosed with cancer in the liver earlier this year. Many know Mohan as a staunch supporter of the arts scene in Colombo and Mojo has been preceded by many colourful fund raisers, all of which have endeavoured to raise money for the chemotherapy that he requires.
Following the success of fund raisers Mo Better Blues and MozArt, the organisers of these events, Mohan's friends, wondered what could be done next. Exhibition; check. Live music show; check. Gigantic beach rave? This suggestion received a resounding and unanimous 'Yes!'
Exploring the new phenomenon in Sri Lanka, the day-time rave, Mojo will be a one-of-a-kind party. Offshore Life fame, considered the pioneer of organised raves in Colombo and the guru of House Music parties, will send DJs Tim and Ben to spin their stuff at Mojo. Also expected is Colombo's latest DJ sensation, DJ Shiyam who earned his place in the spotlight by playing not-so-usual music, his favourite genres including Electro and Progressive genres of House music, rarely explored by Sri Lankan DJs. DJ Yazz, who often appears alongside DJ Shiyam at parties, and is quickly making a name for himself as a DJ not afraid to take risks, will also play at Mojo, as will DJ Nigel, an expert at the job, well know for his superb taste in Lounge and Chill Out music.
With this winning combination of DJs, never before seen together at one party, Mojo is bound to be an exciting day for House music lovers. There will also be a lot of other things to do – photographers Deshan Tennekoon and Sandun de Silva will have their very own Photo Portrait Stall and crazy props like hats and walking sticks will make for quirky, funky and fun photo portraits. Another exciting act will be '4 Da Drums', a group of young and dynamic percussionists who will undoubtedly keep the audience on their feet. There will also be a Body Art stall featuring renowned tattoo artist Franco.
Delectable food and drinks will be available throughout the day, and there will be t-shirts on sale, and many ways to have an absolute blast, all while contributing to the cause. If rest is required in-between partying, rooms will be available at reasonable rates. |
