Thousands of men, women and children with cancer seek treatment at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Maharagama. However, the NCI has only 600 beds although as many as 850 patients need attention.
Taking into consideration the needs of these patients, the CCC Foundation in Australia and Sri Lanka have embarked on a project to create a home away from home for these people on the premises of the NCI itself.
The 140-bed CCC House would prevent overcrowding and floor patients, allow staff to focus on the more critical in-ward patients, provide a homely environment to outpatients and their carers and also provide better facilities for resident carers of outpatient children. The United Nations Youth Association (UNYA) of St. Joseph's College contributes its mite towards this worthy cause by organizing Touch of Music, an awareness-cum-charity concert on October 24 at 6pm. at the college auditorium.
"Change needs one ingredient ….you", as its theme, the UNYA hopes that young people will rally round to support this cause by attending the concert which will feature top college choirs (St. Joseph's, St Benedict's, Bishop's College and Good Shepherd Convent), as well as the Merry An Singers and several distinguished vocalists.
Tickets priced at Rs. 750, Rs. 500 and Rs. 350 are available at Majestic City (on the weekend) and at the St. Joseph's College reception (on weekdays). |
