Taj deal resealed
By S.R. Pathiravithana

It is learned that after a series of yo-yo bouts with Sri Lanka Cricket, Taj TV has once again clinched a long-term deal with the local body.

Minister Lokuge

Taj TV which already has TV rights with West Indies, Pakistan and Zimbabwe has now added Sri Lanka into its long term list for over US $ 60 million in a contract that will run from 2009 to 2013.
According to inside sources the deal was sealed on Friday.

With the new agreement, Taj will get Sri Lanka home series covering 3 tests and 5 ODIs vs. Pakistan in July 2009, 2 tests and 5 ODIs vs. New Zealand in August-September 2009, Sri Lanka-New Zealand-India Tri-series 5-7 ODIs in July 2010 (New series), West Indies 3 tests and 5 ODIs in December 2010, Australia 3 tests and 5 ODIs in August 2011 and Pakistan 3 tests and 5 ODIs in October-November 2011.
Matches for the rest of the period are yet to be negotiated.

Earlier Minister Lokuge commenting on the Taj issue said that in terms of a court order for renegotiations they would be holding talks with Taj TV.

“Taj TV has sued SLC for US$ 300 million and to fight it would be a long drawn costly issue and it would be better if we settle for a renegotiation,” Lokuge said.
