Fantasy. Maiden DVD out soon

By Sanath Weerasuriya

‘Fantasy’ is a popular band with a set of talented musicians, who are now putting final touches to their maiden release. Formerly known as ‘Zodiac’, ‘Fantasy’ is the brain child of Sudath Mannaperuma, who has almost two and half decades of musical experience behind him.

Zodiac was a very popular band in the club circuit in most of the resort hotels and has gained a name as one of the popular concert bands in the country sometimes back. But the unfortunate death of its leader Roshan Hajji, made the boys to call it a day in 1999.

Sudath was among the members, who shouldered the responsibility in resurrecting the line up and he named the new outfit with old faces as ‘Fantasy’. Since then it was no stopping for them. The boys were on the move with many top contracts and concerts during the past few years.

‘We were busy working around the clock for the last few years in night club circuits and almost at all the top concerts island wide. It was hectic but we enjoyed our work. We had a couple of overseas tours too. But now the thing has change and we have some breathing space. So we decided to do something of our own’ Sudath said.

Their maiden album, yet to be named, comprises some of Sudath’s own composition and some cover versions of popular English hits. ‘We are working on the album and hope we will be able to release it in a couple of month’s time.

Fantasy comprises Sudath on guitar and vocals, Samantha Geekiyanage on bass and vocals, Varunajith Prasannan on keyboards and Shiromi Almeida.

Fantasy is currently performing at Airport Garden Hotel in Seeduwa.
