 Armstrong Products was established in the year 1989, and has over the years built up a sound reputation as a Sri Lankan cement based product manufacturer for high quality durable products that caters to both the local and export markets in the areas of construction and landscaping. Armstrong has three factories located in the areas of Welisara, Ranmuthugala and Kadawatha, which are capable of producing concrete items for required specifications at very competitive prices.
Armstrong Products are also eco friendly as they provide the best alternative to timber-based products used for construction and landscaping. In addition to this these products require little or no plastering and therefore contribute a substantial saving on material and labour costs. Armstrong Products was brought to life by Mr. Tissa Hettiarachchi who is the company's, Chairman. Mr. Hettiarachchi is a product of Ananda College; he is also a prominent judo player with a Black Belt from Sho-Dan, Kodokan-Japan and a graduate of the University of Colombo in Natural Science. Ms. Rohini Kumasaru is the company's Managing Directress, who is a graduate from the University of Katubeddha. The Sunday Times spoke to Mr. Hettiarachchi to find out more on what Armstrong Products have to offer.
 "We initially started off with manufacturing cement blocks and later diversified our products according to the demands of our customers. Today our main line of business includes manufacturing and supplying cement based products for construction and landscaping. With regards to the construction field we specialize in providing cement blocks, cement grills, concrete tiles, pergolas, removable summer houses and garages, door and window frames, picket fences, inter locking pavings, decorative concrete columns, banisters, removable parapet walls, spiral and straight staircases and hume pipes etc. Our landscaping products include concrete flower pots, statues, concrete and terrazzo benches, murals, moonstones, bird baths, garden slabs etc.
We customize our designs according to customer requirements provided that they are architecturally sound and cost effective and in addition to this we have our own standard designs. A company by the name of Amtrad was quite successful in producing quality cement products to the Sri Lankan market a long time ago. This helped us to market our products effectively as the consumer was by this time familiar with good quality cement based products. It was also my intention to venture into a business enterprise that would develop the country and thereby contribute in a positive manner towards building its economy. Armstrong has therefore has been established with this vision in mind", says Mr. Hettiarachchi.
 Minimizing wastage and conserving the environment has also topped the list of the company's objectives. Any bi-products that are left are then again used to manufacture other products, such as paving slabs etc., which therefore greatly reduces unnecessary wastage costs and also has helped the company to bring out more innovative designs to the market. The company has produced many innovative substitutes to timber-based products, which are designed using cement based and fibre combinations. Armstrong is famous for its spiral stairways, picket fences, solid frames and louvers, verandah pillars as well as for its movable multipurpose garages and summer houses. These movable summerhouses have been introduced for the first time to Sri Lanka and include modern designs, which can easily be moved and erected to different locations within your garden. These summerhouses can be constructed anywhere without any legal complications as they are easily removable.

Armstrong also offers exact replicas of antique and traditional items, which can easily resemble natural stone designs, where attention to detail has been given to the maximum so as to provide natural finishes that are unmatched by any other. The company also manufactures cement walls which have the natural stone effect and which are also water resistant as well as floor tiles that have traditional designs which are easy to maintain.
