Some 3,500 Sri Lankans demonstrated opposite the British Prime Minister’s residence at 10 Downing Street, London, last evening. (See picture on right). The demonstrators were protesting against moves by the British government to send a special envoy to Colombo.
The demonstration was organised by the Sri Lanka Anti-Terrorist Front in London. “We are expecting terrorism to be brought to an end in Sri Lanka, but instead the British government is trying to send a special envoy to talk about peace, when the military is about to bring an end to terrorism,” said a spokesman for the organisation.
The protestors carried placards critical of the British government, and demanded that the LTTE release civilians being held hostage in the North.
