The Colombo Labour Tribunal has awarded compensation to U.L.M. Nazeer and H.P. Siripala in a case where they challenged their termination as Programme Officers from the Christian Childrens Fund.
The order was given by Tribunal President K.A.Piyaratne with attorneys Suren Peiris and Sherome Wijesinghe appearing for the applicants while Shirley Fernando appeared for the respondent.
Nazeer was awarded compensation (based on salary) of Rs 448,800 while Siripala was awarded a sum of Rs 366,345.
They said their services were terminated without any justifiable reason and wanted reinstatement with back wages as relief. The tribunal president however didn’t order reinstatement and gave reasons for this.
