The Ceylon Kennel Club in association with the Canines Can Care, India will be holding Sri Lanka’s first canine agility and dog training programme on March 7 and 8, at the Premadasa Riding School Grounds in Nugegoda. This course is essential for anyone interested in taking up dog training as a career and participation is limited to 20.
The founders of Canine Can Care, Shirin and Junaid Merchant will be conducting the course. Mrs. Shirin Merchant is an associate of world renowned animal behaviourist and trainer John Rogerson and has many years of experience in the canine field. Mr. Merchant is an experienced obedience and agility trainer and is responsible for introducing the popular sport of canine agility in India.
Canine Agility hugely enjoyed by dogs and owners alike. It is a team sport and helps to foster a strong bond between the handler and his dog and is a great way for a dog to stay fit and healthy.
The two- day course will start off with obedience exercises and will go on to the agility course and on the final evening there will be a fun competition.
This programme will be a forerunner to many such programmes and competitions which the Ceylon Kennel Club will be conducting in the future for pure bred dogs.
