‘Slum Dog’ comes to Colombo

Academy awarded British film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ will be here in Colombo from April 17 at the Majestic Cinema, Colombo.

Directed by British director Danny Boyle, the film is an adaptation of the Boeke Prize-winning and Commonwealth Writers’ Prize-nominated novel Q & A (2005) by Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup.

Set and shot in India, the film tells the story of a young man from the slums of Mumbai who appears on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and exceeds people’s expectations, arousing the suspicions of the game show host and of law enforcement officials.

Nominated for ten Academy Awards in 2009 ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ won eight including Best Picture and Best Director.

Following ‘Dancing Star’ which is now being screened at the Majestic Cinema, ‘Australia’ a 2008 Australian epic romance film will be released from March 27 following which ‘Slum Dog’ is to be shown.
