Lalith Peiris |
Lalith Peiris, a senior employee of George Steuarts Ltd who rose from the ranks to managing director of a subsidiary company, will this month say ‘adios’ to a 43-year career with the group.
Mr Peiris, who joined the company in August 1966 as a Clerk in the Accounts Dept, retired in April 2008 as Managing Director of George Steuarts Recruitment (Pvt) Ltd and thereafter was appointed Consultant – International Business Development, an assignment which ends next month.
He served in various departments of the group, including the travel unit, and in 1987 was appointed Manager of the Foreign Employment Division which played a key role in the promotion of migrant employment.
During this period he successfully negotiated with the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business to recruit Sri Lankan trainees to Korea. George Steuarts is the only private company out of 750 registered foreign employment agencies that was selected for this purpose and thereby recruited around 4000 trainees to Korea from 1997 to 2006. |
