Suicide blast at Vavuniya

A suspected LTTE suicide bomber blew himself up in Vavuniya yesterday when soldiers who shot him attempted to arrest him, the military said.

The incident occurred when the soldiers who were tipped off about two suspicious looking people loitering, wanted to check their identity. They began to run, prompting the soldiers to open fire. The suicide cadre was injured while the other escaped, the military said.

No soldier was hurt in the incident.
