S.H. Indunil Kumara of Devapathiraja MV Rathgama showed a marked improvement when he came within 102 votes of category leader Niwanka Abeyrathne of Sri Sumangala Panadura in the Outstation Schools’ Contest at the end of count No 14 of the Bata-The Sunday Times Most Popular School Cricketer of the Year Contest 2009.
At the end of count 14 Indunil Kumara had 1942 votes against his name against the 2044 polled by leader Abeyrathne.
In the Allisland Contest Zahirian Isham Ghouse is in the lead yet and looks determined to hold on this position for longer. In this week’s count Ghouse polled 502 votes as against the 272 polled by Angelo Perera of St. Peter’s.
In the all Island contest besides the top ten names which are published votes have been coming in for cricketers such as – Navin Kavikara of D.S. Senanayake (93), Dinesh Chandimal – Ananda (80), Dulash Kumarasinghe – St. Anthony’s Katugastota – (37) and Usitha Dissanayake of D.S. Senanayake (34).
In the International Schools’ Category Aadhil Niyas of Gateway College is sitting pretty on a cushion of 3379 votes received by him.
