It was in 1980, that Mr. Thassim started his career at Citibank, Riyadh and in 1983 was appointed to a supervisory position. “His visionary leadership, extensive knowledge, and hands on experience helped him to move rapidly in the Samba Group to higher positions such as Assistant Manager, Manager, Senior Manager and finally as Vice President,” according to a press release issued on his behalf.
It said that at a time when Saudi Arabia was localising services, it was an accomplishment for a expatriate to be considered for a position as Vice President. In 1985, Citibank became a Saudi American Bank and by 2000, it was a 100% Saudi bank and was renamed as the SAMBA Financial Group.
