NSASL next medical camp at Polonnaruwa

The National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka (NSASL) which was formed in 2000, has been regularly conducting Medical Camps in many parts of the country to create awareness among the people on early warning signs, how to minimize risk of a stroke and treatment.

The Executive Committee has decided to conduct the next Medical Camp in Polonnaruwa on Sunday, July 5th.

The camp will be sponsored by the Hatton National Bank - Polonnaruwa Branch under their "Gami Pubudu Project - Divisaviya" and will be held at the Asela Maha Vidyalaya, Welikande.

Several consultants from Colombo as well as other doctors from different fields will be attending the clinic. Medicines as well as other essentials such as clothing and school items for children, will be distributed among villagers of Aselapura on this occasion.

Those who wish to assist in this humanitarian project are requested to deliver items to the National Stroke Office at No. 6, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7 or contact Vishva Gunawardena - Senior Manager (Development Banking) at the Hatton National Bank PLC, HNB Towers - Level 19, No. 179, T B Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10 before July 1.

'Amarasekera in Retrospect Year' programme

Continuing the discussion on Gunadasa Amarasekera's outstanding contribution to our literature over the past 50 years, the third in the 'Amarasekera in Retrospect Year' programmes will be held on Tuesday, June 16 at the Namel-Malini Punchi Theatre in Borella at 5 p.m.

Tuesday's seminar is titled 'An Evening with the Poet'. Gunadasa Amarasekera will speak of his works and also recite some of his poems on this occasion.

Inauguration of HFC Past Teachers Association

The "Past Teachers Association" of Holy Family Convent Colombo 4 will be formally inaugurated on June 19 at 9 a.m. This association will provide an opportunity for past and present teachers to meet and get to know one another as well as share their knowledge and experiences.

All past teachers who had served for more than five years at Holy Family Convent Colombo 4 are warmly invited to join the association. They are requested to contact the school on 2587261 or 2591546 and also inform other fellow teachers of the launch The programme organised by the HFC prefects and Parent Teacher Association will end at 12.30 p.m.

British School to assist schools in the north

The British School in Colombo is to send much-needed educational aid to the North. The British School Community Council (BSCC), which is the parents' association of the school, recognising the plight of children displaced from their homes and schools in the North will set aside substantial funds raised by this year's charity social "Magic At Sundown" to provide appropriate urgent educational aid in the short term, and then assist in developing a school library in the north.

The BSCC has already donated medical supplies, dry rations and clothes for the internally displaced children and their parents. Similar aid has also been organised and sent by students in both Junior and Senior sections of the School.

"Magic at Sundown", a fashion show and social, will be held on Saturday June 27th at the Galle Face Hotel Colombo.

Anmol Design Studio, will stage the fashion show that will showcase the latest designs by India's foremost designers Ritu Kumar, Renu Tandon, Krishna Metha, Soumitra Mondal, Neelanjan Gosh, Aslam Khan and Anita Dongre.

The evening will start off with a fashion show and cocktails on the terrace. This will be followed by dinner in the grand ballroom of the hotel.

Joint get-together of residential halls of Pera University

Ramanathan and Arunachalam Hall alumni of the University of Peradeniya will hold their joint get-together on Sunday, June 28, at the Police Park pavilion, Thimbirigasyaya starting from 7.30 p.m. The Ramanathan ladies will also participate in the function.

Members of other Halls of the University of Peradeniya are also welcome to attend and should contact the joint organizers- Justin Jayasuriya (2851194/2323058) or Ranjan de Almeida (2827620/2552687) before June 25.

There will be music and a sumptuous dinner organised for the event.
