Vavuniya’s Hariprawam returns with best figures

Jaffna Team – with SLC Coaching Manager Malcolm Perera and Senior Marketing Manager of Ceylon Agro Industries (Prima Group) Sajith Gunaratne.
Kandy District under-15 cricketers led by Kanishaka Ranaraja annexed The Prima Champions Cup for 2008 with a convincing victory over Colombo North B captained by Anjana Abeyratne at the final of the tournament at the Colts grounds.

The Prima Champions Cup inter-district cricket tournament commenced in September 2008 and 24 district teams participated throughout the tournament. The highest individual score in the tournament was 186 by Manoj Sarathchandra from Kandy and K. Hariprawam from Vavuniya returned the best bowling figures with 6/18. The best batsman of the tournament was Nimna Karunaratne from Kurunegala while Ashan Madushanka received the best bowler of the tournament award. The man of the tournament was grabbed by Manoj Sarathchandra from Kandy.

The main presentations were followed by special awards and certificates of participation to all teams with appreciations to all the coaching personnel who assisted and guided the boys throughout the tournament.
The highlight of the day’s proceedings was the arrival of the Jaffna District cricket team. Though not part of this year’s event, they were specially invited for the finals to soak in the atmosphere before launching their own challenge for the trophy this year.

Though Kandy took away the Champions Trophy it was the boys from Jaffna who stole the hearts of those present as they accepted special awards & cricketing gear for their dedication and commitment to continue playing the game amidst adversity.
