GOH (hotel) refurbishment at Rs 1 billion

The 200-room Grand Oriental Hotel (GOH), a landmark hotel built during British times overlooking the Colombo port, is to be refurbished at a cost Rs. 1 billion, Chairman Bank of Ceylon (BOC) Gamini Wickremasinghe told the Business Times.

The BOC, which owns the hotel, has called for expressions of interest from international hotel chains to manage its subsidiary GOH and applications closed on November 20. He said they are looking at a management contract deal with an investor who can spent for refurbishment as well. Several local investors have expressed willingness to take over the management of the hotel, he said.
