Meet the top 12 contestants who will vie for the 'Avirate Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2011' title on July 11

The countdown has begun and 12 stunning young ladies who are vying for the prestigious title engage in extensive training and preparation in the run-up to Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2011.

The lucky winner who walks away with the title 'Avirate Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2011' at the grand finale to be held at Colombo Hilton on July 11, will be taking wing to Sao Paulo, Brazil to represent Sri Lanka at the Miss Universe 2011 pageant.

The top 12 contestants who have successfully faced the challenges and compete for the crown this year are Noshin De Silva, Lakshika Thilakarathne, Hiranthi Warusevitane, Gayesha Perera, Deena Tissera, Anupama Wanaguru, Marliese Liyange, Hirunika Eranjali, Dilrufa Shanaz, Angela Jayatissa, Wasana Senadhipathira and Stephanie Siriwardhana.

Noshin De Silva (19 years) is a passionate hip-hop and ballet dancer studying International Business and Communications at Quinnipiac University, in America, Lakshika Thilakarathne 25 years old is currently doing CIMA exams while also being a student of Rozanne Dias's modelling school. A model, actress and yoga teacher, Hiranthi Warusevitane (26 years) has studied Art, International Relations and Politics at the Australian National University while 23-year-old Gayesha Perera is a well known actress who works as an ambassador for thalassaemia and the Brave Hearts project.

Deena Tissera, 24, is a third-year medical student at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and 22-year-old Anupama Wanaguru, fluent in English, Chinese and French works for SriLankan Airlines. Marliese Liyanage (19) plays an active role in the Organizing Committee for the Sri Lanka Model United Nations and 25-year-old Dilrufa Shanaz works at the Colombo District Courts. Hirunika Eranjali, 23, is sitting for her final attorney's examination at Kingston University in London while Wasana Senadhipathira, 24, is into professional modelling, leading fashion shows locally and internationally. Nineteen-year-old Angela Jayatissa works at Richard trading company as an assistant manager while reading for her MBA in International Business at the British School of Commerce and Stephanie Siriwardhana, 23, is a graduate from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, with a degree in Journalism, Communications and Political Science.

The chic clothing label, Avirate, which is 100% local, has partnered the event as the clothing brand to take what is truly Lankan to the international arena. A fashionable clothing line which covers a range from evening wear, office wear, lingerie to shoes and accessories, Avirate is to showcase its exclusive collection of swim wear, casual wear and evening wear at this year's pageant.

Being a title sponsor for the pageant is a great opportunity as it is the first local apparel brand that has tied up with this prestigious event, said Avirate Managing Director Arshad Sattar at a news conference held last Tuesday to present the 12 finalists.

" Avirate started in June last year and we will open our second store at Cinnamon Grand Hotel soon with another in Kandy by the end of the year. Being a clothing partner for the pageant gives us an opportunity to showcase our Sri Lankan brand to the world," he said.

The official print media partners for Avirate Miss Universe Miss Sri Lanka 2011 are the Sunday Times, the Daily Mirror and the Lankadeepa.
