Hail, our happy second home

By Laila Nasry and Ruhanie Perera
"Hail, St. Bridgets, we thy children
Bless thy hallowed name..."

Chins raised, voices both young and old joined in the anthem we had all sung for so long which had united us in the spirit of what it is to be a Bridgeteen.

To be a Bridgeteen is to be someone special and on February 1, 2002, hundred years down the road, generations of Bridgeteens- grandmothers, mothers, daughters and grand daughters gathered to pay tribute to their alma mater which for 100 years had 'gently but firmly' fashioned lives, moulded characters and shaped destinies.

The atmosphere was that of jubilation and euphoria as we joined in the Eucharistic Celebration, shared the joys of the newly appointed prefects entrusted with the responsibility of upholding the traditions established in the school, honoured the past head prefects and savoured our place within the Bridgeteen family.

It was with a sense of pride that we walked out through the majestic wrought iron gates we so often have swung on as kids, leaving the precincts of the grand school, which for a good part of our lives had been our second home.
