Prabha live
on state TV
By Shelani Perera
National television is exploring the possibility of giving a live
telecast of the news conference to be given in Kilinochchi by LTTE
leader Velupillai Prabhakaran on Wednesday. Rupavahini Director
General Nimal Lakshapathiarachi said they were working on the ground
work to telecast the media conference live via satellite. But some
technical problems are yet to be sorted out.
Some 300 local and foreign journalists are expected for the news
conference, the first by the LTTE leader in 15 years. He said that
if live coverage could not be given, they would bring the tapes
by helicopter and telecast the news conference that night.
The LTTE's invitation to the conference in Vanni has also been extended
to the UN press corps in New York. A faxed press release from the
LTTE Secretariat, now based in 'Vanni, Tamil Eelam', was received
by several UN based news organisations, including Inter Press Service
(IPS), the Third World news agency.
In the press release, the LTTE has also offered to assist attendees
requiring accommodation. "But it does not stipulate whether
accommodation will be four-star or five -star and what about those
pre-paid airline tickets?" one journalist remarked.
