Aroma magic: back to nature
By Esther Williams
Aromatherapy, the magical word in beauty treatment that conjures up images of fresh, fragrant and flawless skin figured prominently at Bridal Fair 2002. Here as in the rest of the world, it is the preferred treatment owing to the use of natural ingredients in its products.

To market her wide range of Aroma Magic products, Blossom Kochhar, a leading internationality personality in the world of Hair and Beauty Culture was there in person to personally supervised live demonstrations that seemed to work wonders, a definite crowd-puller at the fair.

You had to see it to believe. Blackheads and other skin blemishes actually disappeared and the skin lightened, right before our eyes when Peppermint Kerrafol Gel, an exfoliating scrub was used. Its contents - Alpha hydroxic acid, vitamins and antioxidants, she said, worked the magic. A face-lifting treatment using a glow-face mask was done on half the face of a woman whose skin seemed to sag. Twenty minutes later there was a noticeable difference - the skin was tightened and clear. Sounds unbelievable doesn't it?

"The ingredients used for this 'treatment in a bottle' are so natural and safe that you can actually eat the product," says Blossam Kochhar. "We use essential oils, vegetable waxes and oils, mulsifiers, and vegetable preservatives which are absolutely natural - a small quantity can do wonders," she adds.

Blossom explained that Aromatherapy was as old as the Vedas, practised quite a lot in India, China and Egypt during the ancient days. Although it went out in the 20th century, it has now made a reappearance on the current 'Back to Nature' trip that the world is talking about.

Aromatherapy, as the name suggests, is the science of smell. Made from pure essential oils of plants, inhaling or adding a few drops as recommended in your bath water can alter your moods or take care of specific beauty needs. The Aroma Magic range includes bath and body oils, cosmetic cleansers, toners and moisturers and hair care products. Peace Oil, Almond Nourishing Cream and China Rose Shampoo are some names of the exotic products.

Having been in the beauty business for over 20 years, Blossom Kochhar, a Ph.D in Aromatherapy from the US, today runs a chain of salons that specialize in Aromatherapy. A pioneer of aromatherapy in India, she conducts demonstrations and lectures all over the world on this natural beauty concept for men and women. She is also an advisor and consultant to leading cosmetic concerns in India. She had the distinction of being the 'Official Hair and Makeup Service partner for Miss World 96 Pageant.

A believer in the holistic concept of beauty and body care, she has also evolved a Day Spa Concept for body, mind and soul. The Spa provides rare treatments for de-stressing, de-toxifying, re-mineralizing, body wraps, massages, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, colour therapy and a host of other treatments that revive, rejuvenate and relax the body, mind and soul.

Her books, 'All you want to know about hair and beauty', 'Health and Beauty through Aromatherapy' and 'How to manage your Salon' have also sold well. Blossom also runs India's finest chain of hair and beauty education institutions, 'Pivot Point, India.'

Blossom Kochhar's products are affordable she says, but are usually sold through beauticians as a little education is required to use them. Salon Nayana is the sole distributor of her products in Sri Lanka.
