             Dido not faithless
Award-winning singer Dido has lent a hand to her brother's band
Faithless. The group has an entry at No: 6 this week with 'One Step
Too Far'. The group fronted by Dido's brother Rollo Armstrong last
appeared at No: 3 in June last year with the song 'When Come I'.
            The Eagles are
to begin a massive tour across the US on May 31.
            The tour will
be the first for the Eagles since the 'Hell Freezes Over', reunion
              tour of 1999.
            The tour will
commence in Reno, Nevada and will continue around 30 venues across
the US, taking the group to Minnesota, Michigan, Arkansas, Kentucky,
Nebraska, Alaska, Oregon, Mississippi and Tennessee. The tour may
              include a few more States.
Rumour of an Eagles tour had been circulating for a few months.
            Meanwhile the
band is reported to be recording a new album. It would be the first
since 'The Long Run' was made in 1979.
            The death of
the Notorious B.I.G. is in the news once again. The family of the
late rap star filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Los Angles
Police Department (LAPD). The lawsuit filed on April 9 is being
jointly pursued by Biggie's mother Voletta Wallace and his son Christopher
Jr., his daughter and wife Faith Evans.
            The Notorious
B.I.G. whose real name was Christopher Wallace was shot outside
a Los Angeles museum five years ago.
            The current
police chief and the former police chief (who was in charge at the
time of the tragedy) have been named as respondents.
            The Wallace
family claims the LAPD could have done more to prevent the murder
since they were aware of the tension between the East Coast businesses
              and rival gangs.
            The family of
the late Biggie also believes the LA police wilfully stopped the
murder investigation after it was found some of the investigating
officers and a few others in the LAPD were involved.
            The UK singles
              chart of
this week revealed Gareth Gates 'Unchained Melody' to be the undisputed
No:1 song for a fourth consecutive week.
            It is reported
Gareth Gates had cheekily said when his single was released, he
wanted it to break Will Young's chart performance.
            Will Young won
the "Pop Idol" contest and as we all know Gareth Gates
was the runner-up. Obviously Will's winning song 'Anything Is Possible/Evergreen'
was released first. It swooped into the No:1 position and held the
top position for three weeks. So now Gareth Gates has beaten Will
              Young's chart performance.
            'Unchained Melody'
has sold over a million copies as a No:1 song in the UK in two versions.
Robson & Jerome's rendition in 1995 and now Gareth Gates' version.
            At 17, Gates
is only the third teenager to have a million selling single in the
UK following Paul Anka who was 16 years with his hit 'Diana' in
1957 and Britney Spears who was 18 when her single 'Baby One More
Time' sold the magic seven-figure number in 1999.
            The highest
new entry of the week checked into the chart at No: 2. The Club
track 'Lazy' by X-Press 2 had to settle for second position as it
could not beef up sales to oust Gareth Gates.
For X-Press 2 fronted by Ashley Beadle nevertheless it is a good
show since they have been around for nearly nine years. All their
previous releases have peaked between No: 59 and 32. On the current
hit, X-Press 2 has former Talking Heads leader David Byrne on vocals.
            The brothers
of Scott Lee of the now defunct Steps also make their debut on the
chart at No: 11 with 'Take It Easy'. The three boys call themselves
3SL. With an Epic label behind them and elder sister Lisa as mentor
3SL's debut into the scene is good. As the pressure mounts we will
be able to see if they survive or fade away from the music scene
              which is very competitive.
            The big record
labels are after Mariah Carey. They are fighting to sign the
diva after she was paid to walk out of her contract with EMI.
            The names chasing
after Mariah are Universal's Island, Def Jam, J. Records and AOL
              Time Warner's Elekta.
            Carey was dropped
by EMI after her album 'Glitter' turned out to be a flop.
Her new contract though may be significantly less than her previous
              EMI contract.
