CLOTHES LINE

Silver lining at the end of the road
The age-old saying "every cloud has a silver lining" is very true as I found out in the recent past.

I boarded a bus for a short journey and immediately spotted a long lost friend seated right at the entrance. Having offered me his seat in true gentlemanly manner, we got into animated conversation and looking out suddenly, I thought the bus had reached my destination. Out I jumped with a hurried goodbye only to realised to my utter dismay that my destination was two halts away. A sizable crowd was at this bus halt and I knew boarding another bus would not be an easy task. As I hate riding in 'put-puts', the only option was to walk the distance to my destination. Observing shops on both sides of the road, I remembered that I needed a photo frame for the picture of the latest addition to our family, my fifth grand daughter.

So, I started my journey on foot, peeping into all shops lining the road looking for the photo frame I had in mind. Fate was not kind to me at all as nothing suitable was available. By now I was tired and angry and yet I stepped into the last shop in the row. Looking around I could not see any small photo frames and observing this smiling sales lady I told her my need. This sweet young girl perhaps noting the tired grandma's disappointment, promptly pulled out from a drawer a pretty little pink plastic picture frame and held it out to me. My happiness knew no bounds because that was exactly what I was looking for. She wouldn't even take money for it stating that it was given as gifts to customers who brought a roll of film. My offer to buy one was kindly turned down. I left that shop feeling happy, realizing that I was able to put to good use the wrong move I made earlier in the day.

Adversity could be gainful after all. Food for thought, isn't it?

Days gone by
One day we walked those corridors hand in hand. One
day our laughter and chatter filled those classrooms. We knew each other's sorrows and joys.

Gone are the days when we cried on each other's shoulders and shared our grievances. That intimate friendship we experienced, the love we shared, the joy in our eyes, the trivial matters we argued about belong to the past. I cherish those beautiful memories. They keep our friendship alive even though we live miles apart.

We are no more under one mother's care - our beloved Alma-Mater. Yet somebody else has taken our place. They tread the paths we once trod, they occupy the classrooms which once were ours, they have replaced us.
May be it is the reality of life that we must accept.
We meet, we depart. Newcomers replace us.
Yet, the memories we carry in our hearts draw us closer though we are apart.
