Fastest
growing airline in the Middle East
Qatar Airways, the national carrier for the State of Qatar was established
in 1994 and has been restructured in 1997 with a whole new corporate
identity. Today, Qatar Airways is the fastest growing airline in
the Middle East and has developed other ventures to complement its
major objectives such as Qatar Holidays, Qatar Duty Free Shops,
Qatar Aircraft Catering Company and Ground Handling Company at Doha
International Airport.
The airline
has embarked on an ambitious expansion plan that aims to double
its fleet from the current 14 to 30 in the next three years and
to increase the number of destinations from 34 to 50 by 2004. Last
year, an order was placed for four Airbus A330-200s, two Super Jumbo
Airbus A380 and ten Airbus A320, with an option to buy three Airbus
A330-200s and two Airbus A380.
In Europe,
Qatar Airways operates to London - Heathrow, Munich, Paris, Frankfurt
and Milan. The Middle Eastern network covers Abu Dhabi, Amman, Bahrain,
Beirut, Cairo, Casablanca, Damacus, Damman, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah,
Khartoum, Kuwait, Muscat, Riyadh and Sanaa. Major cities such as
Colombo, Karachi, Kathmandu, Dhaka, Lahore, Peshawar, Trivandrum,
Male and Mumbai are also served in the Indian sub continent region,
while Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Manila are the far eastern
hubs of the airline.
Qatar Airways
expands in Europe
Effective mid June, Qatar Airways commenced operations to Frankfurt
and Milan further strengthening its operations into Europe. With
their close airline partners, Qatar Airways offers convenient connections
to all major cities in Europe via the airline's gateway points;
Munich, Paris, London, Milan and Frankfurt.
The current
flight schedule between Doha and London is maintained at eleven
frequencies which offers immediate connections in and out of Colombo.

at surprisingly affordable prices, for passengers wishing to stay
over in Doha.
