Power Minister
sure of Kotmale project
By Shelani Perera
The power struggle over the vital Upper Kotmale project is continuing
but Minister Karu Jayasuriya is confident the disputes could be
sorted out and that the Japanese government won't withdraw its aid
package.
The project
which was to begin last month was shelved at the last moment after
Minister and CWC leader Arumugam Thondaman said its impact would
be more negative than positive for the plantations areas.
Last week Prime
Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed a five-member committee
to review the project and submit a report by Thursday with Minister
Jayasuriya expressing confidence he could go ahead with the project.
