Sneak
peeks
Step in to the Chamber of Secrets for a spell and take an exclusive
peep at Harry Potter's latest wand-erful adventure, is what News
of the World offered its
readers recently.
Harry and chums
Ron and Hermione are in for a hair-raising time as a sinister new
terror grips their school of witchcraft.
And no, it's
not Kenneth Branagh - the posh actor making his Hogwarts debut.
He plays a good guy in the form of Professor Gilderoy Lockhart,
the Defence Against the Dark Arts master.
In Chamber
of Secrets - to be released on November 15 - Harry (Daniel Radcliffe)
returns to the school despite warnings from the mysterious elf Dobby
that disaster awaits him.
He's still
on the hate list of Professor Snape (Alan Rickman), Draco Malfoy
(Tom Felton) and the rest of the Slytherins - but finds the school
plagued by a series of other dreadful goings-on.
Students are
turned into stone. And Harry is haunted by the weird whispers from
walls. So he, Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) set
out to find out what is going on.
And, as these
wizard pictures show, they discover more than they bargained for
...
Let
Mövenpick delight you
By Vidushi Seneviratne
Put a spoonful in your mouth, close your eyes and
just let it melt on your tongue....
delicious.
From time immemorial,
Sri Lankans have loved ice cream. That's a fact. Now you've got
a chance to indulge in a whole new experience, at a new place where
world-renowned ice cream and coffee can be tasted under one roof.
It's all there at the Mövenpick Ice Cream & Coffee Boutique
down Flower Road.
Established
in Zurich, Swizerland in 1948 as a single restaurant, the Mövenpick
group has since branched out globally and is now a billion dollar
venture. They have opened exclusive outlets not only across Europe,
but also in Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and India in South Asia.
Maldives is next on line.
Asked why Sri
Lanka was important, Movenpick General Manager for South Asia, Neeraj
Jain says they see economic potential in the country. "It's
blossoming," he says, adding that their local partners, Indigo
Ventures Private Limited, played a major part in making it possible
to set up the boutique here.
The delicious
ice cream, made with natural ingredients, is imported from Switzerland.
While they have 300 flavours around the globe, 25 flavours have
been launched in South Asia.
Conventional
vanilla lovers can enjoy the smooth taste of real 'Madagascar Vanilla',
while chocolate fans could try out the original 'Swiss Chocolate
Ice Cream'. For those who want to be a tad more adventurous, there's
'Tiramisu' with Marcarpone, biscuits and Amaretto flavoured coffee
sauce, 'Maple Walnut' with crunchy walnuts lined with maple syrup
and 'Vanilla Brownies' with crumbs of chocolate brownies enriching
the natural and smooth vanilla ice cream. Well as you can see, the
list is endless.
A must try
when you visit the boutique is the 'Espresso Croquant' with rich
Italian Espresso coffee and hazelnut croquants. For fruit lovers,
there's 'Lemon-Lime', a sorbet with lemony freshness and 'Strawberry'
or 'Srawberry-Vanilla', which has the ice cream enriched with chunks
of juicy Alpine strawberries.
As for the
coffee, their premium range is available in eight blends - Heavenly,
Espresso, Mocha Java, Caravelas (South American), Moyale Africa,
Palembang Sumatra, Sumatra Decaf and Kauai USA blend. They've also
got a variety of coffee mocktails such as Moccaccino, Cappuccino
and Mint Mocha topped with whipped cream and garnished with nuts
and flavoured syrups. Apart from these, you can try out their floating
coffees, soda floats, tea blends, iced tea and ice cream shakes.
As savouries,
Mövenpick offers a delectable Deli sandwhich selection, Panini
selection, pies, cakes and pastries.
Located in
a colonial-style home, the elegant surroundings can seat 116 guests.
The gourmet desserts can be enjoyed in the cafe itself or outside,
overlooking a landscaped garden. There's also a lounge with settees
arranged in an oriental style and a 'Library' where you can sip
a coffee while flicking through a book picked from their collection.
However, there
is room for slight improvement. The tables in the cafe are ideal
for two but do not comfortably seat four, with elbow and leg room
becoming a squeeze. Service too needs pepping up and with more and
more people visiting the boutique, it surely will.
"It's
only when a product is not of a standard, that many things need
to be said. If the product is above standard, it's quite the contrary.
With Mövenpick, the product says it all," assures Mr.
Jain.
Go ahead folks,
with hot and humid weather on the cards, it's time to indulge in
a delicious ice cream at Mövenpick.
Try
something new at Havelock Place
Been to all the restaurants in town? Still not found your favourite?
Well, you might want to try something new. Discover the best-kept
secret: Havelock Place Bungalow.
This small
guest house cum restaurant and art gallery is known amongst insiders.
A beautifully renovated colonial twin bungalow with a lush garden
- a haven of peace in the middle of buzzing Colombo.
It is 'the
place' for a business lunch or an afternoon coffee and cake. It
is here you take your date (or your best friends) for a special
treat - a candlelit dinner.
You can choose
between the garden piazza or - if it pours - the bistro-style restaurant.
The main theme
is the food handled by young chef Mark. With several years experience
at The Hilton and an intermezzo with the best chefs in Melbourne,
he is very likely to make your mouth water. Everything is fresh,
he even does the shopping himself on the market, so he can choose
the best ingredients.
He calls his
cuisine 'modern', the dishes are Italian, or French, or Asian, somewhat
Bistro style. You can call it what you want - it is delicious!
There is an
excellent choice of daily specials, with classics like Caesar Salad
or Lemon Tart, fresh prawns and fish.
There is the
rare Risotto (where to find?) and Pastas. And there is an exquisite
la carte menu, with only a few dishes, but handpicked, so that everyone
will find something to his or her taste.
