'Power of Dance'moves on

'Power of Dance', a dance concert with novelty by the students of Arpeggio Dancing Academy will be held at the John de Silva Theatre on July 27 at 6.30 p.m.

This will be their second performance of 'Power of Dance', which is getting popular very fast.

'Arpeggio' led by talented dancer Nilan Maligaspe, has years of experience behind him as a choreographer and dancer in cinema and stage. This ten-piece dance group is based in Athurugiriya is much popular in Colombo and outstation circuits.

'Power of Dance' is dance concert with fusion style and the group is aiming at doing it dffierently mixing modern ballet with pop, rock and Eastern music.

'Arpeggio Dance Orchestra' comprises Nilan, Indika Thilak, Chandeepa Priyadarshana, Menura Perera, Dinesh Kumara, Lasantha Kumara, Kalum Pushpa Kumara, Kamal Kumara, Asitha Kumara, Lakshitha Wijetunge, Chamila Lakmal, Amila Kuruppuarachchi, Manjula Prasad, Irosha Sandaruvani, twins Ruvini and Ruchira, Sugandi Ekanayake, Rashmi Amarasinghe, Hasitha Senanayake, Divanthi Herath, Preethika Sanjeewani and Harshani. Most of the members perform with the group on special occasions.

Making the group members to be perfect on the job, Maligaspe intends training another group of youngsters talented in the craft. "Unless more innovative items and programmes are presented it would be difficult to carry on," he said.

Adamant and dedicated to keep several more successsful steps ahead in the near future, Maligaspe has chosen Indika Thilak as deputy leader of the group to act on his behalf during his absence.

'Arpeggio', the dance troupe with a difference celebrated its eighth year in dancing recently.

A taste of Ireland
'A Taste of Ireland,' an Irish Food Festival is now on at the 'London Grill' of the Lanka Oberoi. London Grill goes Irish from July 17 to 22 when Irish Chef Brid Torrades, dishes out top Irish cuisine specially for the Festival.

Chef Torrades has a variety of scrumptious Irish dishes lined up from chicken liver pate laced with Irish Whiskey to cream of parsnip soup and moving on to kerrygold beef, garlic roast sirloin of beef with butter sauce - or perhaps Irish stew... end on a sweet note with Irish mist souffle, apple cake with custard or even Baileys Ice cream.

The Irish Food Promotion will be from the 17th to the 20th of July 2002 at the London Grill, the Lanka Oberoi.

'Bradby Ball 2002'
Kandy's dance of the year " Bradby Ball 2002" will come alive at Le Kandyan Hotel on July 27 .

After scrumming at the Bogambara ground (2nd League), Trinitians and Royalists will have a swinging, rocking blast at the Le Kandyan with hotest band in the town "Sound Journey" together with YES FM and MOS DJ Crew. Singing duo Bathiya & Santhush too will perform with their backing musicians.

"Sound Journey" is led by versatile musician Bony Apwasamy, who is an excellent guitarist and a good vocalist. Band Leader Shane Berenger, who is having 12 years experience behind him and born to a family of musicians, seems to have music in his gene.

Band comprises of Suresh Perera (Keyboards/Vocals), Riz (Drums), Rohan Nethasinghe (Bass), Bony and Shane.

According the boys,they love to play songs of Deep Purple, Joe Cocker, Bery White, Toto, Pink Floyd and Queen. In other words Rock, Soul, Punk Blues are their favourites.

Yes FM will pump the best and the latest music with their Spin-Masters Tom Hart, DJ Anza, Mike Riley together with popular MOS DJ Sheran-D. Also the Kandy audience can feel the best Hi-Tec sounds and laser lights for first time in Kandy.

This is a biggest party of the year in Kandy. There will be loads of competitions, give aways which are sponsored by leading companies in Sri Lanka. Selection of 'Bradby Queen', 'Best Scrummer' and 'Best Dancer' will be the top attractions of the night.

"Also the audience can enjoy their food and beverage throughout the party in the special outlets, which are priced at nominal rates," said Rushdy Raheem, Manager, Food and Beverage and Entertainment of the Hotel.

Tickets are priced at Rs. 750/- and ladies are free to enter. Limited tickets will be sold .

The biggest 'Rock Party' in town

'Rock Cyclone' - Venom in Concert will be back again on July 27 at BMICH Western Garden at 9.00pm

Rock bands Venom, Stigmata, Sound Journey, Independent Square and Kerb's Cycle will be featured at this biggest rock party.

'Rock Cyclone' will be the very first concert that will feature all these rock bands on one stage. This will cater mainly for rock lovers of Sri Lanka, who starved for pure, rock of 60's and 70's.

The band Venom comprise of highly experienced musicians namely Keerthi Fernando, Thilak Dias, Primal Liyanage, Chaminda, Kolitha and Tony. Special attraction of this show will be the performance of the "On Stage" winner of the solo category, Rock Queen Chathurika Fernando, who is none other than Keerthi's daughter.

This event will be in a party atmosphere. There will be plenty of food and beverage stalls to make rock fans comfortable.

Tickets will be priced at Rs. 500/- and will be sold at the gate. Every ticket will receive a glass of beer or a soft drink free.

Web for Maria comes out with 'Sthree'
Mariazelle Gunathilake, the ever famous Baila singer launched her new web site-www.mariazelle.com comprising six pages of her life and career last week.

Speaking at a press conference, Mariazelle said "this was a dream come true" and thanked those who have helped her realise it among whom Sohan Weerasinghe and Antionette owed special mentioning.

However the official launch will be done on August 11, in parallel to the musical event called " Sthree" scheduled to be held at Bishop's College-an event, where female are to dominate the stage. Mariezelle, Corine, Dalrene, Chandani Hetttiarchchi and Shyami Fonseka are the main singers while Annesley Malewana, Maxi and Sohan Weerasinghe will be singing duets with these female vocalists. The

roceedings will be channelled to the Kidney Patients Welfare Society.
The Profile page of Mariazelle's web site outlines Mariezelle's personal life interspersed with career details while Kandy Lamissi relates the birth and evolution of the song of the same name, with the lyrics added for good measure.

A Special page called Music Shop lists her cassettes and CD release, while calender lists all her performances for the month, both in Sri Lanka and overseas. The website will also feature News Updates on a regular basis together with a direct link to her e-mail address at home. The year was 1976, Mariezelle recalls "Kandy Lamissi-bacame an instant and roaring hit with the growing clientele at "Akasa Kade". The same year, her father " strongest inspiration" as she puts it decided that she should make a recording of it. For the first time a six-minute song was sung and recorded.

'Scrum Down 2002' at MRH
"Scrum Down 2002", a dinner dance organised by the Mahaweli Reach Hotel Kandy will be held on July 27 at the Hotel.

"Scrum Down 2002" is organised to coincide with the 2nd Leg of the Annual Bradby Shield encounter to be held in Kandy on Saturday July 27. 'Super Pink & Purple' with '2 Together R' will provide the music for dancing and compere of the evening will be Faizal Bongso.

Gypsies in Concert
"Gypsies in Concert" will be held at the BMICH on July 21 from 7.00 p.m. onwards with popular singers Rukantha and Chandralekha. This concert is organised by G.L. Peiris Foundation with the objective of strengthening its financial resources towards widening the scope of social activities carried out by the Foundation.

G.L. Peiris Foundation carries out a wide variety of educational, cultural, religious, sports and other social activities with Colombo as its centre, covering other areas of the island.
