Hemas
group help in UNICEF project
UNICEF, the UN Children's agency, recently signed a MoU
with Hemas Marketing (Pte) Ltd as a partner to further Early Childhood
Development (ECD) programmes in Sri Lanka.
The four to
five million-rupee sponsorship of ECD programmes by the Hemas group
involves a series of media advertisements focusing on this issue,
promotion of a growth chart for UNICEF, provision of educational
toys and other equipment for pre-schools and advocacy material.
Early childhood is defined as the period of a child's life from
conception to eight years.
Asked whether
the sponsorship came from the "heart" of the Hemas group
or was aimed at merely promoting Hemas products, Hussein Esufally,
CEO of Hemas Holdings (Pte) Ltd said "it is from our hearts
as we have supported many similar projects in the past".
Sri Lanka's
corporate sector is increasing its role as a socially responsible
citizen, pouring money in a range of social issues including women
and children, which is the core of UNICEF's work across the world.
