Anura blasts
US again
SLFP
front-liner Anura Bandaranaike, political adviser and brother of
President Chandrika Kumaratunga, has castigated the United States
of America once again - this time in a letter to US Ambassador Ashly
Wills.
Mr. Bandaranaike
was responding to a letter originally written to him by the US envoy
complaining about a controversial speech the former Speaker had
made in Ampara a fortnight ago where he said that the incumbent
US President George Bush jnr. won his election by only 800 votes
and that too by fraudulent votes.
He had also
chided Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's recent meeting with
the US President as a 'non-event'.
In his letter
to Mr. Bandaranaike, Ambassador Wills is learnt to have referred
to US support for Sri Lanka and made some remarks on the Marxist-nationalist
JVP in what seemed to be a reference to the PA-JVP axis.
Mr. Bandaranaike
in his four-page letter has cast serious doubts on the US helping
Sri Lanka in a time of real crisis and blasted the US saying that
they have proved to be the most untrustworthy friends listing out
a litany of instances where they have let their friends down.
Referring to
the 'warning' about the JVP, Mr. Bandaranaike has again slammed
the US for having befriended and supported a long-list of the world's
worst dictators - and then let them down.
