Mahanayake kept
waiting for four hours

President Chandrika Kumaratunga on Friday kept the Malwatte Mahanayake
Thera waiting for four hours and eventually did not turn up for
the appointment.
Earlier in the day, the President had personally spoken to Ven.
Rambukwelle Sri Vipassi Mahanayake Thera and said she would call
over at the temple between 4. pm and 5 pm.
The Mahanayake
Thera had waited till 9 p.m. and then informed the journalists that
the President had not so far informed him that she would not be
coming and that he could not expect her.
However, another
appointment was sought yesterday and the President is due to meet
the Mahanayake today.
Meanwhile Prime
Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe met the Ven. Udugama Buddharakitha
Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya chapter and the Malwatte Mahanayake
on Friday and yesterday to brief them on the peace process and the
current political conflict between the government and the President.
