Fit for a Queen!

The yacht before it was taken for refurbishment.

By Hiran Senewiratne
Fancy hiring a luxurious yacht for a day and cruising down Sri Lanka's beautiful southern and eastern coastline without a care in the world? That's what flamboyant shipping magnate Kiran Atapattu promises to offer to the country's wealthy elite and upmarket foreign tourists. Atapattu, owner of Colombo Engineering Enterprises, has leased a foreign-made yacht and is knocking it into shape at his dock at the Colombo port and in three months … Voila … will be a super-luxury craft or floating five-star hotel.
"People work hard and need to relax and enjoy. I am giving those (who can afford to) an opportunity to enjoy themselves undisturbed in the open seas," he told The Sunday Times FT. Atapattu is the first Sri Lankan to venture into producing Sri Lanka's first ever-super luxury yacht with all luxuries including six sleeping cabins, bar and all other necessities a luxury yacht should have. He said besides sailing to tourist destinations outside Sri Lanka, the pleasure yacht will also be offered to local people on a day cruise or two-day cruises.
