Giving
to make a change
Winds of Change - a show of music, poetry and drama
will contribute to tsunami welfare
A group of theatre and music enthusiasts,
drums, saxophone, clavinova, flute and guitar. And words penned
by a renowned poet. It’s all there. Ninety minutes of pop,
jazz and Latin music. The combined Theatre Company is gearing up
for their forthcoming show Winds of Change.
All
members are sharing their talent for a worthy cause. Those of us
who have been lucky enough to survive such a catastrophe could only
be grateful for life and help others who still suffer from the aftermath
of the tsunami. All proceeds of this show will be donated for relief
work, especially for those in the Ampara district.
The
show is designed and directed by Vinodh Senadeera who has directed
Ropes of Sand and Proof for the Combined Theatre Company. The musicians-
the jazz ensemble, have been involved with many musical productions
such as Piano and Drums, have been rehearsing for this production
for the last one month. What is different is the fusion of various
western instruments with the eastern. Chaminda Samaraweera, Damith
Peiris, and Vinodh Senadeera will perform two original works. The
music will be the score for the renditions of the three poems composed
by renowned Sri Lankan poet, Jean Arasanayagam.
Apart
from the original compositions, Penny Ferdinand will be performing
“Smile” by Nat King Cole and a jazz version of “Somewhere
Over The Rainbow.” Samantha Ferdinand performs Frank Sinatra’s
all time classic “New York” and “That’s
What Friends Are For.” Dillon Fox (Bass) performs his version
of the title song “Winds Of Change”, “It’s
Now Or Never” and “Strangers In The Night”. Dilini
Perera sings “Vincent,” Shenali Peiris performs “Memories”
and Bhagyani Benedict performs “The Rose.” Rushika Weerasuriya
sings an unusual song by Norah Jones. Chaminda Samaraweera, who
has been performing at many shows, both as an actor and musician,
will be on drums and percussion. With all the experience behind
him with this group, the music will be innovative and soothing.
Damitha Peiris, will share his talent on saxophone and clarinet.
Suki Gunatilleke, Rukshika and Mathew Heinle are the narrators for
the production.
