WB,
ADB to discuss tsunami, post conflict work
The World Bank and the ADB, stalled last week by the JHU and other
groups in meeting the LTTE, have scheduled a press conference tomorrow
to discuss the current state of tsunami and post conflict reconstruction
and rehabilitation work.
Alessandro
Pio, ADB Country Director and Peter Harrold, World Bank Country
Director are meeting the media at the World Bank office to discuss
these issues, a lot of which is likely to focus on northeast tsunami
rehabilitation and post conflict work.
Pio
and Harrold and their colleague from the IMF postponed a planned
visit to Kilinochchi last Friday, saying they didn’t want
to do anything to disturb proposed peace talks in Geneva and planned
to undertake that trip after the talks are held later this month.
The
trio was to meet S.P. Thamilchelvam, LTTE Political leader. Soon
after the agencies announced their intention to meet LTTE officials,
the JHU and other hardline groups protested and urged the government
to take steps to prevent the meeting.
