‘Forsaken
Land’ rated one of the best
Vimukthi Jayasundara's 'Sulanga Enu Pinisa' (The Forsaken Land)
was rated as one of the top films by the public audience here in
Rotterdam.
The
film which was screened under the section of 'Cinema of the World-
Time and Tide' at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR),
had four public screenings to almost packed audiences on January
26, 30, February 2 and 3. The selections in this section are made
on the basis that the films that reveal 'the social, political and
cultural commitment of filmmakers'.
One
of the films screened in this non competitive section is given an
audience award on the basis of the selection made by the filmgoers
who marked their votes after screening of the film.
According
to the rating on January 26 Vimukthi's film had reached the third
place out of nearly a hundred films screened during the day.
The
result was released on the festival web site 'www.filmfestivalrotterdam'
and in 'the Daily Tiger', the official newspaper published during
the festival period. The award is named the Tiscali Audience award
and this includes cash prize too.
Earlier
the script of 'Sulanga Enu Pinisa' was awarded Prince Claus Film
Grant Award for the best Cine Mart project in 2004 by the Rotterdam
Film Festival. The Festival on an international level, supports
filmmakers to realize their dreams of filmmaking.
