Sri Lanka completed the formalities to beat Bangladesh in the second
Test in Bogra to win the series 2-0 . At 77-0 overnight, the tourists
only needed 43 more to win but rain held them up for seven hours
on day four.
Finally, at 1630 local time Upul Tharanga and Michael Vandort resumed
their innings and knocked off the required runs in eight overs.
The 10-wicket defeat for Bangladesh followed an eight-wicket reverse
in the first Test of the series in Chittagong. Vandort, who began
22 not out, continued to play a supporting role as Tharanga who
scored a massive 165 to rescue Sri Lanka in the first innings, raced
to 71 not out - including hitting a massive six off Enamul Haque.
Vandort finished on 40 not out to make up for his first innings
duck, while Tharanga hit 236 runs in the match.
The match will chiefly be remembered for Muttiah Muralitharan's
match haul of seven wickets which included his 600th in Test cricket.
