Beach party
at Wadduwa

Want to test out the limits of entertainment during
the weekend? ‘Rhythm of the Ocean’ – a night of
sand, sea and fun, organised by Ocean View Resorts on Saturday,
June 17 promises an unforgettable beach party.
The highlight of the beach party to be held at
Villa Ocean View, Wadduwa from 7 p.m. onwards will be the performance
by two of Sri Lanka’s most popular bands – Wildfire
and Chill Out. The hotel will offer an attractive rate for those
who wish to stay overnight in Wadduwa after the evening.
Present at a press conference to announce the
event were General Manager of Ocean View Resorts (OVR) Terrance
Martyn, Deputy General Manager of OVR Manilal Gunasekara, Business
Development Manager of OVR Ranjaka De Mel, Director of Planning
and Development of OVR Roshan Cassim, Marketing Consultant of OVR
Lalin De Mel, Madushanka Ranathunga from Lion Brewery, Derek Wikramanayake
from Wildfire and Sajee Lamahewa from Chill Out.

“Most entertainment is concentrated around
Colombo,” said Mr. Cassim, adding that the main intention
of the organisers of the beach party is to offer those who live
in Moratuwa, Panadura and Kalutara a good time. “The in-house
guests at the hotel will also benefit from this opportunity, which
will expose them to first-rate music the country has to offer,”
he further said. “We hope that the evening will be a pleasurable
one,” said Derek from Wildfire, expressing the band’s
wish to entertain the residents of the area. “We have not
played outstation for a long time, and we hope that some of our
fans from Colombo will join us in Wadduwa as well,” he added.
“We have been overseas for one and half years, and this will
be our first big performance, since our return and we greatly look
forward to it,” added Sajee from Chill Out.
Entrance tickets for the event priced at a nominal
Rs. 200 will be available at Abans Kollupitiya and Rajagiriya, the
Corporate Office of Villa Ocean View at No. 6, Charles Way, Colombo

Honoured
for service to the community
Dr. Fawzy Saleem, an old Trinitian and longstanding
Sri Lankan expatriate in the US, was honoured with the Physicians'
Recognition Award for Service to the Community. The award,
the ninth in an annual series, was presented by the Academy
of Medicine in Richmond County, Staten Island, New York.
Following the December 2004 tsunami, Dr.
Saleem spent three weeks in an intensive relief effort in
the devastated areas in Sri Lanka. A longtime member of the
North Shore Rotary Club in Staten Island, he garnered the
support of a consortium of Rotarians in a projected $ 10 million
initiative to rebuild over 25 schools and establish a housing
project named Staten Island Village in Wadduwa.
Currently, Dr. Saleem is affiliated
both with the Staten Island University Hospital and the Saint
Vincent's Catholic Medical Center. His wife Loulou Thassim-Saleem
is also actively involved in the ongoing project.

this little girl
Baby Sandeepa Sewmini is suffering from cyanotic congenital
heart disease and has to undergo urgent surgery. The operation
is to be performed at Apollo Hospital Colombo by Dr. Sivakumar,
Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist. The estimated cost is
Rs. 650,000.
