Majestic Cinema goes Digital Surround EX

The Majestic Cinema was recently equipped with the latest Dolby Digital Surround EX sound system.

The upgrading was done last month to the existing Dolby Digital system adding Surround EX. This will enhance precise localization of front sounds for all viewers, including those seated off to the sides. This is due to the fact that although a great improvement over mono surround, the stereo surround of today's digital formats still make it difficult for mixers and sound designers to place sounds directly behind the audience.

This new Surround EX technology was the answer and provides filmmakers with a powerful new creative tool for producing realistic soundtracks.

Dolby Digital-Surround EX requires the addition of the new Dolby Model SA 10 Surround Adapter, which is easily and quickly installed in theatres already equipped for Dolby Digital playback.

When a Dolby SA 10 Surround Adapter had been added the surround speaker array has to be rewired into four sections thus enabling both two-and three channel surround playback to function. The Hi-Fi Centre Ltd, are the local agents for Dolby and JBL Products Systems Installation and alignment was carried out by their Dolby factory trained engineer thereby assuring that the theatre sound system is accurately aligned to the standards that have been established by Dolby Laboratories.

As explained by the Installation Engineer Dolby Digital Surround EX brings benefits to the surround fields EX a back surround channel is reproduced by the speaker array at the back of the theatre while left and right sound are reproduced by the side arrays.

This means that sound can now be positioned behind the audience ,opening the door to exiting new effects such as true 360 pan.
