Hemas and Malaysia’s Columbia to set up hospital
in Colombo
A new 100-bed private hospital is being built just
north of Colombo in a Sri Lankan-Malaysian joint venture project,
the promoters said last week.
Swastha Health Services (Pvt) Ltd is the joint
venture between Hemas Holdings Ltd, one of Sri Lanka’s biggest
conglomerates, and Columbia Pacific Healthcare Sdn Bhd, Malaysia,
Hemas said in a statement.
The new hospital project was reported by The Sunday
Times FT last month. It said Columbia Asia is a regional healthcare
provider with operating facilities in Malaysia, India and Vietnam.
That company focuses on providing affordable, high quality health
services to fast growing suburban communities.
Hemas said in Sri Lanka, the joint venture has
identified a need for a facility to cater to the needs of people
residing north of Colombo.
“Accordingly, it intends to construct a
100 bed general hospital and is currently in the process of securing
a land and obtaining necessary regulatory approvals,” the
statement added.
