The exchanges were even with both sides taking
time to settle. The Petrites once settled looked a much more organized
side and they combined well with their forwards and three quarters
clicking well. On most occasions the Peterite line looked threatening
with fly-half Irfath Meedin being outstanding.
In the fifth minute Wesley drew first blood through
a 40 meter penalty by full back Yasas Nonis. But the Petrites fly
half Irfath Meedin who missed a difficult 35 meter penalty far left
was on target with a fine 30 meter drop goal. In the 26th minute
of the game Peterite took the lead through a forwards rush with
lock forward P Samson going over the line. Irfath Meedin was on
target with the kick at goal to lead 10-3 at ‘lemons’.
In the second half the Petrites completely dominated
the game with the rucks, scrums and line outs. They punched holes
in the Wesley outfit who played without a proper plan and lacked
leadership. In the meantime the Petrite three-quarters gave some
crunching cover tackles to keep away a few Wesley moves.
In the 15 minute of the game Irfath Meedin took
St Peter’s through a good 30 meter penalty (13-3). In the
20th minute Wesley came back, through a line-out near the Peterite
line. They worked their line with nippy scrum half Samanth Lakshantha
touching down by the left corner flag. (13-8)
In the last ten minutes of the game Peterite got
three penalty kicks at goal with Meedin being successful on two
occasions to take a comfortable 19-8 win.
