Maliban, the confectionary giant and leader in the industry, in operation for over half a century, was recently conferred with ISO status in different areas of service standards, which serve as a benchmark for the quality and assurance in delivering utmost value to the consumers.

The company said Maliban was awarded the ISO 14000 as well as ISO 22000 certification – both certifications obtained within a span of seven days - the former pertaining to the environment and the latter certification for food safety standards. Maliban is currently the first and only biscuit company to achieve the prestigious ISO 22000 certification. Maliban has also had the distinction of being the first biscuit manufacturing company in Sri Lanka to be awarded the ISO 9001 certification in 1995 – which was later upgraded in 2003 to ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System Certification.

The company also has the distinction of being the first food company to achieve the National Quality Award in 1996, the statement added.

Chief Executive Officer of Maliban Keerthi Adaasuriya said Maliban was committed to sustainable development by ensuring the responsible usage of resources and in the prevention of environmental pollution. “We are deeply mindful of our responsibility towards the community, through our business operations and procedures as well as our commitment towards our consumers. Maliban prides itself on the strict quality measures to assure food safety which is an intrinsic part of the operations of the company.”

Maliban Biscuit Manufactories Limited was founded in 1954 by A. G. Hinni Appuhamy with the vision of supplying Sri Lankans with high quality biscuit products at a reasonable price. Maliban is a household name in Sri Lanka for quality food products, and is one of the most respected Sri Lankan entities in the country. Maliban is more than just a biscuit maker. It is also a legend in entrepreneurship and the extraordinary journey of one man who has built one of the largest companies in Sri Lanka with his determination, courage and commitment to quality.
