Mahamaya junior swim champs

St. Joseph’s College Colombo
bagged the Junior National Aquatic Championships for
2006 with 118 points at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool
yesterday. Ananda College was second with 97 points
and Trinity College Kandy came in third with 85 points.
The meet was organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports
Union.
Mahamaya College Kandy took first
place in the girl’s events with 164 points followed
by Musaeus who scored 94 points. St. Bridget’s
Convent was third with 65 points.
Three national junior age group records
were established at the meet. The first was in the Girls
under 14. 200 meter freestyle relay with a time of 2.11:47
by Mahamaya College comprising Sunethra Wijerathne,
Thilini Abeykoon, Imesha Malalasekera and Madhavee Weerathunga.
The second record to be lowered was
in the Girls under 14, 200 meter medley relay also by
Mahamaya College Kandy. This team comprised the same
foursome.
St. Joseph’s College Colombo
also set up a new meet record in the Boys under 14,
200 meter medley relay with a time of 2.16:9. The team
was made up of Sashika Perera, Praneeth Udumalagala,
Manawadu Kaushal and Avinesh Weerasekera.
Madhavee Weerathunga of Mahamaya was
selected the best swimmer amongst girls while the best
swimmer among boys was Pathum Edirisinghe of Ananda
College.
