Bens party with Gypsies Down Under

'Gypsies', arguably the most popular band Sri Lanka ever produced will take top billing at the 25th Anniversary Dinner Dance and a mega concert organized by the St. Benedict's College Old Boys' Union, Victoria.

They were specially flown by the Benedictines domiciled in Victoria to perform at this mega events organized to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Victoria Branch, the very first branch of the OBU to be inaugurated overseas in 1981.

The 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner Dance will be held on September 23 at the Kingston Town Hall, Moorabin. This mega celebration will be preceded by another event 'Dance with the Gypsies' a concert featuring the Gypsies and Ronnie Leitch, organized by the OBU Victoria to be held on September 23 at same venue.

According to the organizers in Down Under, all 800 tickets for the Dinner Dance and 1000 tickets for the Gypsy Concert are already sold-out.

'The proceeds of these events will be channelled to Colombo to support the College playground Development Project and other development work at the College. A distinguished gathering of Old Benedictines from all over the globe, are expected to grace the occasion at both these events' a member of the Colombo based OBA, told TV Times.

'Elaborate arrangements have been made by the organizers to have these events in the true Benedictine style and maintain the tradition of being the best organized and most sought after events, envied by all' he said.

The people who are responsible for organizing these mega shows are Old Ben Glen Joseph General Secretary of the OBU Victoria Branch and Old Ben Ravi Irugalbandara, General Secretary of the Old Boys' Union who together with the committee of the Victoria Branch headed by the President Old Ben Frank Pereira have made plans to project the image of the school in many innovative methods at these events.

In another first for a Sri Lanka School, the dance would be IP cast live on SEETv worldwide via the internet on September 23. It will make St. Bendict's College Old Boys' Union the very first Sri Lankan organization to uplink live content of their Annual Dinner Dance for National and global viewing and connecting expatriate Sri Lankans around the world.

The Gypsies and Ronnie will thus have the privilege of being the first Sri Lankan musicians to be featured live globally at this historic occasion. Music lovers could link up and register at www.seetv.com.au and obtain a username and password prior to the event to be a part of the grand celebration.

The Gypsies will also perform in Perth, Sydney and Canberra during their three week tour of Australia.
