Seven-in-a-row for ‘Thora’
The much looked forward to traditional hockey clash
between Royal and S. Thomas’ Mt.Lavinia provided a keenly
fought out contest with S. Thomas’ pulling of a 2-0 win in
the under 19 game at the Astro turf yesterday.
The Thomians led by Raveen Gunasekera led 1-0
at the breather. Centre forward Natheef scored the first goal. The
second was scored late in the second half in semi-darkness by Amjad.
Thus the Thomians retained the Orville Abeynaike trophy for the
seventh successive year. The Thomian goalie Cassim stood out in
defence with some daring saves while Royal full back Aloka Amarasiri
had an excellent game in defence as well as in attack.Umpires: Ravi
Irugalbandara and Mahes Perera.
In the old boys match played earlier Old Royalists
triumphed 1-0 with Thisara Herath scoring the goal.
