Sri Lanka is well aware
on doping -- Duleep Mendis
By S.R. Pathiravithana
Sri Lanka is well aware on the doping issue. According
to Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Duleep Mendis Sri Lanka carries out random
doping checks on cricketers.
Mendis explained: “The ICC has its own doping
policy and it is based on the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) policy.
There is no such time or place that we carry these tests out, but
we do it at random. It may be at practices or after a game, but
the cricketers have to oblige if they are requested to face a test.
So much so there is a cough syrup that we prescribe to the cricketers.
We have obtained special permission from the ICC.
“The last time Sri Lanka Cricket carried
out checks was during the under 19 World Cup tournament which was
held here. However we don’t have our own lab and we get them
tested in Malaysia which is the closest place where they have a
WADA accredited dope testing Lab”.
