MillenniumIT’s
software competition for Sri Lankans
Millennium Information Technologies (MillenniumIT)
last week opened its web portals to accepting submissions from school
aged participants and others competing to write a software robot
using a programming language that can safely pick up valuables from
a wrecked spaceship.
Millennium All-Island Robot Competition (MARC)
is a software competition open to all Sri Lankans. The competition
which will take place over four months will enable competitors to
design an algorithm to navigate a spaceship using the robot’s
vision and implement the algorithm using Applications Programming
Interfaces (API’s) available in all popular programming languages.
There are two categories in the competition enabling
both school level competitors (under age 18) and open (over age
18) competitors to show their coding skills. One million rupees
will be given in cash prizes to the first three winning entries
in both categories. To enter the competition and for further details,
visit the website www.marc.lk, the company said.
“From the inception of MillenniumIT we have
given our employees the opportunity to excel in innovation by giving
them free hand to demonstrate their talent,” says Tony Weeresinghe,
CEO of Millennium Information Technologies. “We believe it
is time to extend this opportunity to the younger generation so
they have a chance to develop their creativity and achieve technological
excellence.”
Since 1996 MillenniumIT has actively partnered
with the University of Moratuwa in supporting a series of Computer
Science and Electronics events. From March 2004 the company also
provided scholarships and sponsorships to deserving students at
the University. The company has also hired interns from Informatics
Institute of Technology, and the Universities of Moratuwa and Colombo,
in an effort to educate, inform and expose the next generation of
workers in the fields of Information Technology and Software.
