MC wants more security
for Courts Complex
By L.B. Senaratne
The Kandy Courts Complex was in need of more security
and modern equipment for the protection of this multi-million rupee
building, said Kandy Municipal Council Member Anura Gonawela.
He complained to Mayor L.B. Aluvihare at a meeting
of the Council, where the Mayor was presiding.
Member Gonawela said that he had occasion to walk
in to the Courts Complex where he was not even checked apparently
because he was wearing a black tie. He said that a black tie was
not the criteria to let persons go unchecked and that the Courts
Complex needed more protection.
He also complained that the vehicles entering
the Complex from a side entrance too were not checked. This he said
was a failure in security because anyone could enter in a vehicle,
especially in a car, and this was a high risk at the Courts Complex.
The member urged the Mayor to provide a better
surveillance system at the Courts as it was situated within his
area of jurisdiction.
Member Gonawela further said that he had inquired from the Court
Registrar and that he was told that they had already written to
the Council of the situation.
The Councillor said that it was their area of
administration and that the Council should apprise the situation
and seek remedial action.
