Crossing at financial
risk

The Kandy Police have decided to arrest persons
who fail to use the pedestrian crossings and impose spot fines
or produce them in courts.

| Police who implemented the programme from
this week ordered 28 persons to appear in courts after they
failed to use the crossings. Twenty of them were fined Rs. 1,000
each while eight others are yet to appear in courts. Police
said that the minimum fine which could be imposed was Rs. 750.
Police this week put up sign boards warning pedestrians about
the action, but as the picture shows some of them are still
