Matale TT talent unearthed

A team of experienced and qualified coaches from the Sri Lanka Table Tennis Association headed by National player and coach W.A. Buddadasa with Tilina Piyadasa, Namal Gunasekera, Menik Perera and Poornima Sandarath conducted a two day TT coaching camp fo students between the ages 7-15 at the Matale Sports Club during the last weekend.

Over 150 boys and girls from school in the Matale Educational Zone – Sri Sangamitta Girls, Christ Church, Vijaya, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Primary, Matale International, Harasgama MV, and Cambridge International School participated in this camp which imparted practical knowledge on the basic rules and latest exercise techniques involved in the game followed by a series of exhibitions TT practice sessions.

Speaking to The Sunday Times National player and coach W.A. Buddadasa said that there is an abundance of talent among the participants and they need to be tapped and developed through regular and systematic coaching. The coaches were highly impressed with the physical fitness of the children and the enthusiasm shown towards the game.

“The object of this coaching camp was to help young players to improve and develop their skills and techniques under proper guidance of competent coaches to display their abilities” so said former National players and Silver Medalist at the 6th SAF Games 1993 – Udayangani Aluvihare who organized the two day coaching camp.

As there was a good response from players Udayangani intends to conduct similar programmes with greater participation at regular intervals.
