‘Rankevita’ tells a tale of a golden rod

Udayakantha Warnasuriya's latest directorial venture ‘Rankevita’ (Golden Rod), a children’s film will be released from March 16 at EAP Circuit Theatres.

The film revolving around two children and a magic rod they find create many hilarious and dramatic events. With a number of child cast the film stars Hishami Samsudeen, Harith Beddewela, Srinath Maddumage, Vijaya Nandasiri, Saman Hemaratne, Sarath Chandrasiri, Susantha Chandramali, Semini Iddamalgoda, Manawa Herath, Benette Ratnayake Sadda Uthpalakandage, Upekha Gangodawila, Norman Palihawadana and Devmini Chathurangani.

Twelve year old Suran comes from a village. His friend Janith lives in town and he makes a visit to Suran's rural village during school vacations. Going around the beautiful village Suran and Janith one day pay a visit to one of their friend's home. There they find a loris. Seeing the animal Suran is reminded of a story he had read in a book and the two friends start to dig out the truth of what he had heard. Getting together with a young novice monk in the temple the two friends find books that mention about a supernatural power that can be obtained using the tears of loris. With the help of the monk they prepare the application which could be used to see the guardian devil of bulls. They further comes to know if they can have access to the golden rod belonging to the devil they would be able to do wonders. Suran and Janith prepare the application and apply it on their eyelids and they sees the devil and further they manages to get the rod as well.

Now using the rod they collect a lot of wealth and they use them to help the villagers. This thrills the two friends very much.

Wilba a notorious character in the village comes to know about the power of the rod tries to get it.

Misusing its power Wilba is involved in number of deviant activities. Now the two little friends launch a new project to get the golden rod back.

Will their attempt become successful? Will Vilba learn a lesson? What will happen to the golden rod.

Produced by Ranjith Jayasuriya for Millennium Films, ‘Rankevita’ brings a number of novel features to Sri Lankan film making. For the first time a 3 D animation is used for a film with this and 'Rankevita' also marks as the first Sri Lankan film that provides the facility to obtain tickets over the internet.

The tickets to see the film at any of the thirty theatres where the film would be released could be obtained by logging on to website 'www.eTickets.lk'.

‘Rankevita’ will have a special screening on March 11 at 6.00 pm in ESPACE cinema theatre in Av-Jean Jaure's 93500, Pantin.
