Putting men’s sexual health issues at ease

Have a sexual problem? No desire for sex or a problem with erection and reluctant to seek treatment from a string of 'dubious' clinics advertised in the media? Then here's the answer: The Ceylinco Group, amongst Sri Lanka's biggest conglomerates, has established a new medical clinic focusing on problems related to or affecting male sexual health with absolute confidentiality assured, the company says.

Located at the Ceylinco Healthcare Centre at Park Street, Colombo 2, the clinic will offer the services of a professional team led by a Consultant Urologist, and provide facilities for clinical review, diagnostic investigations, non-surgical treatment, referrals to other specialists and information and advice in an atmosphere of complete privacy and patient anonymity, a statement issued this week, said. Targeted at men affected by erectile dysfunction, reduced sexual desire, ejaculatory disorders and penile disorders such as Peyronie's disease, the clinic is the first initiative by a local healthcare institution to tackle an important area of health that has hitherto been ignored. "Male sexual health problems are quite common all over the world, but a large proportion of those affected do not receive treatment largely due to cultural, social or psychological reasons," said Dr. Ajith Malalasekera, Consultant Urologist and Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine. "Many causes of erectile dysfunction can be effectively treated, and this condition can also be a symptom of a more serious illness which can and should be treated without delay."

He said that the Men's clinic to be conducted on Saturday mornings at the Ceylinco Healthcare Centre would provide a facility for persons needing advice or treatment to discuss their problems at length with medical experts, counselors and receive treatment.

The clinic will provide oral treatment, injections, and mechanical devices such as vacuum pumps or referrals for surgery where necessary.

Patients with endocrine abnormalities such as diabetes or androgen insufficiency, urinary tract disorders or coronary heart disease would be referred to specialists in those areas for treatment. The Ceylinco Healthcare Centre is also equipped to conduct blood tests, scans and Doppler tests if required.

Consultations at the clinic would be by appointment made over the telephone, via an email address or SMS, and would take place in a comfortable, non-hospital atmosphere designed to put visitors at ease.
